A bit more about the operation of ERRVs - standby vessels - in the North Sea. Many of them are provided with one or two daughter craft which can be sent out to look after one of a collection of platforms while the mother ship looks after another. They can remain independent for several hours, and are particularly useful when maintenance is being carried out whiten a platform complex, or when helicopters are moving from place to place. You may wonder whether they are ever really tested. Well, not often - fortunately.
