Over time it has become common for the operators of OSVs to select a design provided by one of the naval architect design houses and then submit this to a shipyard, which will then construct the vessel to the specification and plans provided to them. These design houses will, in many cases also provide components for the vessel, from items on the bridge to main engines, sometimes prompting purchasers to look for cheaper alternatives.

On these pages some of the main designers are listed, together with information about their products, and often with photographs provided by visitors to the site, and the old site. The designers usually have more designs available than have been constructed, and you may be able to see their full range on their own pages.
