The XBow platform ship Nao Viking seen this afternoon - yes we are that up to date - alongside in the River Dee in Aberdeen. In the river is the Edda Ferd departing for sea. To do this it must back down into the Tidal basin before turning round. These are big ships, but they have enormous thruster power so as to be totally controllable in any situation, as long as the driver knows how. But don't they have dynamic positioning? I can almost hear you ask. The answer in this case is yes, but the driver should still know how, and moving about in harbour on DP is a tedious business to watch, and probably heart stopping for the person in charge, who obviously has no idea what is going on.

So ship photographed at 1500 on 22nd April 2019, and uploaded at 1600 on the same day.
