The UT712 Normand Drott photographed recently in Brazilian waters by Torleif Klokset
Over the many years during which new designs have appeared one or two really stand out as groundbreaking, and in the view of the writer one of these was the old UT712 ( old because RR UT have produced a new UT712 since. But looking back to 1984 the Normand Drott and the Normand Jarl really made an impact. Back in those days the 12000 bhp with which they were provided was considered to be super power and there winch capacity of 4000 odd metres of 72 mm wire was as much as anyone could visualise as being required - ever. Both have recently been sold after more than 30 years service with Solstad - that's the way to do it!
