The Big Orange XVIII is another well stimulation vessel (the second featured this month) but this one actually purpose built in 1984. Why "orange" you might ask? This is because Schlumburger one of the providers of oilfield services, used to have a whole fleet of these craft, probably starting with Big Orange 1 which, back in the old days, tied up to platforms and did their stuff. The ship used dynamic positioning to hold station - oh, and they were painted orange. This fine vessel was involved in an interesting accident at Ekofisk in 2009.
