There are now a number of drillship and modern semi-submersibles anchored at Grand Isle 70 in the Gulf of Mexico waiting for something nice to happen to them. One is the Transocean Discoverer India fairly recently constructed in South Korea and capable of drilling in water depths of 12,000 ft. Back in October 2016 it had its contract with Reliance Industries terminated, the operator being contracted to pay the rig owner $160 million. At today prices this allows it to spend two years swinging round the pick before it has to do anything.
