This fine ship appeared in 2008, hardly causing a ripple, which is a bit of a surprise since it seems to be, to a degree, revolutionary, the combination of main propulsion and manoeuvring capability only having EVER appeared before in the Maersk Mariner class in 1986. This is a powerful vessel with a load of sideways power and DPII capability, but most importantly it is provided with a single main propeller positioned centrally aft in order for the best transfer of power from the engine to the environment, and also positioned aft are two azimuthing thrusters provided just for manoeuvring, but which can be retracted into the hull, so that the hull form is not interrupted by their presence.
Elsewhere are a couple of forward thrusters and another azimuthing thruster, which on one plan seems to be positioned centrally under the middle of the hull. Despite the wonderfulness of the design there do not seem to be any others in circulation, although Boa appear to have ordered some, possibly not built due to the oil price crash. I think that DEM is an acronym which covers the availability of stored electrical power to fulfil some roles in the propulsion or manoeuvring of the vessel, but unfortunately on line information has provide to be inadequate, probably due to changes of ownership of the design house and others.
