In the UK sector of the North Sea all offshore installations are supported by an in field rescue vessel, an ERRV, or as they used to be called a standby vessel. But they do have problems of their own, Over the years quite a few have had their bridge windows stove in by rough weather, at least once with a fatality, and if the guys on watch are not quite paying attention they can be themselves a bit of a hazard. Here is the Havila Sea which had driven head first into the leg of an offshore installation, while the officer of the watch had been said to have been playing a video game. The rig had been underaged but the ship had been retired hurt.
