This is the Ulstein PX105 XBow, platform ship, alongside in Peterhead the other day. The Xbow, of which further details can be found elsewhere on the site, was the invention of the Ulstein organisation, and the ship was one of 12 built in China between 2013 and 2014 for Deep Sea Supply. The XBow is claimed by the designers to improve the seakeeping capabilities of the ships so fitted, so instead of riding over the waves the ship pierces them. Not a bad plan you might say, but only possible due to the general improvement in the weathertightness of modern offshore craft.
