This is a pretty typical modern drillship, the Norbe IX, one of a large number built for many companies at the height of the oil boom, but which have ended up crating debt for the investors in the companies that operate them. This one is a DP3 unit, which means the all dynamic positioning systems including the engine rooms are duplicated. It is capable of drilling in 3000 metres (10,000 ft) of water. The owners of the this and other drillships, Odebrecht Oil & Gas, filed for Chapter 15 protection in 2018 with a $5 billion debt, and changed its name to Ocyan. In the photo there is a platform ship being unloaded, and another alongside almost out of sight.
