I don't often feature platforms, but there are a lot out there all over the world. The technique in hostile waters is to deploy a jacket and then put a topsides unit on top. These can be very elaborate, in some cases having a full range of drilling facilities, processing systems and accommodation fitted. This is the case with the Kvitebjorn Platform on the Norwegian continental shelf. Production commenced in 2004 but was halted between August 2008 and January 2009 while a repair was carried out to the pipeline which had been damaged by an anchor. What bad luck, but it happens less often than you might think.
