It now seems like history that once upon a time any old shipping company was ordering ships in large numbers from Chinese shipyards and they were being churned out like cars on a production line. In my view this was due to the fact that the high oil price seems to offer a return for investment at a time when interest rates had reached an all time low, to the point that banks were charging people for holding their money. But the numbers of ships built far exceeded the need for the industry either then, in the downturn or in the future - just my view - others might have calculated the required number against the existing offshore fields and the expected exploration rigs in operation. But one of the companies was Deep Sea Supply, who had 12 identical ship built between 2013 and 2014. The Sea Springer and its sisters are now part of the Solstad Fleet.
