Out in Brazilian waters they seem to employ most of the best anchor-handlers in the world and here is one, the Skandi Urca. It has a bollard pull of about 250 tons, and is advertised as being safe for anchor-handling because it has a beam of 22 metres - or is it "safer"? This is how they look these days with a crane capable of running down either bulwark and therefore having a limited arc in which the tow wire can move. It, and nearly all the other vessels of this type out there, has an ROV to help with the anchoring process. It would be interesting to know exactly what they do. Indeed Captain Jan Plug, the photographer, commented that it was working close ahead of them but he was not sure what it was doing.
